Manta Ray Boards is a female owned and operated company. We pride ourselves on using biodegradable shipping products that help protect the environment and the beautiful sea life that inspires so much of our artwork. We enjoy giving back to the community by donating portions of our proceeds to cancer patients to help with their finances as they battle the horrible disease.
We strive to be an inspiration for fellow females to get out there and reach for the stars – no dream is too big if you are willing to try. Be bold! Be different! Be the beautiful person that you are! Take that leap of faith and let your creativity flow! Find your passion, find your peace, find your joy, and share it with the world.
When Kati Nelson took her first art class in high school, her teacher told her she wouldn’t go anywhere with her art because she had no focus and couldn’t do what she was being asked to do, so she quit. Through the years she dabbled some, painting a few murals here and there, painting some aprons at Home Depot when she worked there, that sort of thing, but she never thought of her art as quality, rather just a hobby. She greatly admired the amazing artists out there, longing to be like them, always wondering if she would ever measure up to them, but she lacked confidence to purse her dream.
Then, one day (after years of praise from her supportive husband, amazing kids, and best friend, who is a high school art teacher, and from others telling her that her art is amazing and needed to be shared with the world) it finally hit her and she finally accepted that she had been blessed with a gift in her painting abilities! Her art is where she finds her peace and goes to get lost in the moment. She truly is an artist.
It was later when she saw a skateboard at an art gallery and remembered her days as a kid learning to skateboard that she thought, “What a great idea! I can take it home and put it on my wall as art and then create some for my boys who love to skateboard; then they would have art on a board as well, and maybe someday reproduce it to have one to ride.”
It was then that she renewed her love for skateboards and art.
While Manta Ray Boards is primarily the source for Kati Nelson's skateboard art, she has a desire to support her fellow artists, as well. Check back here for a feature on one of her artist friends when their boards go live on this site.
